Letting Go
I did a very rough version, couldn't sing loud due to it being late and sleeping people nearby, but you get the feel and tone i was going for with it. i would have done harmonies in the beginning but i didn't have set lyrics yet.
please be harsh.

Re: Letting Go
i think this song can definitely be longer. i wanna do more varied and sparce verse vocals, but i like my chorus idea and the middle part.
who do i go to to get this song reorganized?

Re: Letting Go
i kinda like the length of letting go right now. it has good flow, tension builds and then it lets go. i think your vocals should be more sporatic in the beginning. i think your vocals should be more sporatic in a lot of shit. can you trail off more when it empties out?
maybe find something to say and then melodicize it, rather than covering the whole song with singing and then filling that stream with words. if you're just going to fill space there are plenty of instruments that can do it without diluting any supposed "meaning" the song might have. i think it would also result in less predictable vocal lines and stanza structures

Re: Letting Go
new lyrics idea, guess who its about
"every time it's the same routine
repeat the melody
all the time we spent, look where it went, gone
no one needed it anyway
all that was lost today
all that was always nothing, now
keep it down when you're making noise
so drama's your favorite toy
all you had you're always lacking now"

Re: Letting Go
new mix "lettingo 5-5"
i really need to work on the vocal delivery to reduce the emo factor, thats just the easiest voice for me to have in that register
the "i dont care..." part of the lyrics is just kinda concept idea, i thought it would be cool to have some vocals follow the piano, another verse of the previous pattern could probably overlap over the second repetition

Re: Letting Go
new version "lettingo 5-11"
added harmonies to the beginning with the new lyrics
stripped away some of the instruments in the beginning
EQ-ed acoustic guitars and flute
please start stacking vocals

Re: Letting Go
i'm having some qualms the vocal melody at "look where it went, gone" etc etc. i feel if it's going to be sort of weird sounding there it's gotta be hella bomb diggity dissonant and not just "slightly weird off maybe someone played a wrong note somewhere in there i cant tell". the clarinet delay freakout part may be a little loud when it's behind the vocals, but fine in the instrumental thing after. the song should be sorta like a crazy cuckoo clock, with 800 gears doing things that seem completely separate but totally working together. it can't get too sloppy or the illusion of the delicate balance will fall apart
the "i don't care part" is cool, still considering the weird poly-rhythmic rap idea i mentioned before over the main part at points. just need to learn how to do correct rap voice without sounding sulky, monotone and/or racist.
i sat around the other night trying to think of rap lyrics dealing with loss but that just went into a weird place. if there's anything specific either of you can think of for ideas with that, please speak

Re: Letting Go
honestly, i'm still not sold on the "i dont care" part. maybe way in the background.
all my vocal melodies and the finer details of the rhythm are still just kinda concept art.
i think it would sound really cool if it sounded like the vocals on the first part were kinda in the same place as the piano, so the song starts off with just one person singing (in 3 part harmony) and playing piano and then expands into lots of shite. kind of an homage to NIN's still in a way.
i'll definitely be redoing all the guitar stuff. i plucked the acoustic way too hard and it just sounds noobish, which is taking away from the balance. same thing with revised vocal delivery, and a clearer image of what needs to come into focus where, which will be very much dependent on what new vocal parts get thrown in the mix
