Overture (still typing because you need atleast 10 characters in your fucking subject)
Rachel:
Choir vocals sound fantastic, i really like the harmonies you went with. You got a wee bit off pitch here or there but its 99% flawless. Can you just repeat until the song stops and possibly do 2 more copies of each part? If you have ideas for other coinciding vocal parts go for it. I'm wondering what it would sound like if you got progressively out of tune as you went. Try that but I dunno if it'll be too much.
I also really like how you sound on the end part, but its kinda hard to blend with Fred's part. Since Fred's vocals are so loud and sharp it makes them sound like they're at some distance. The way you're singing sounds too intimate there, like you're close to the listener. I want that part to crescendo from behind the lead vocal, if you know what I mean? Just take a few steps back and be loud.
Fred:
What I was really looking for in the whisper vocals was less of a lead double and more of just spastic mumble-whispers. Imagine the song being played over the opening of some movie. The camera crawls up a hill toward a cathedral during a thunder storm. As opening credits are displayed between lightning strikes, we approach the stoop of the ancient building and the sound of bats fluttering around the steeple can be heard. Once inside the flutter of bats around the vaulted ceiling is even more audible. Be the bats.

Fred can you try this:
http://extra.listverse.com/amazon/audioillusions/Phantom_Words.mp3
say one syllable in the left channel and another in the right
example: "win" and "da" can sound like "da wind" or "window" or morph between them
pick a couple different ones and well see what sounds best
you dont have to say them over and over, i can loop them, but try to get the timing about even

rachel, maybe two takes of that last crescendo part

i did the bat vocals which you can arrange. i think you should do the weird repudiative voice thing, because without mixing it myself, i can't tell if it's right or not.

did you upload the aforementioned vocals?
also can you start sending .WAV or .AIF files instead of garageband projects. it'll save me the work of opening garageband projects bouncing each track into that form and then importing into the master project

new version (overture 4-19-10)
Re: Overture (still typing because you need atleast 10 characters in your fucking subject)
fred can you record a lower harmony starting at "for what you know..."
im having difficulty holding the notes, fucking 69bpm
69 DUDE!!
i have a really strong idea of what i want in my head too, maybe ill be able to if i dont smoke for a few days
around a 3rd lower, kind of more diminished sounding than the lead track, with downward glissandos at the end of phrases, to counterpoint the lead stepping up the scale
does that make sense?
almost like system of a down's vocal harmonies in their clean parts, but not as annoying
the notes i have in my head kind of give it that slight gypsy/middle eastern color, chunowutimsayin?

oh, and overture 5-14.m4a has enough delay to make the edge cry, but it somehow works
Re: Overture (still typing because you need atleast 10 characters in your fucking subject)
i think im gonna create a drum patch out of samples of me hitting metal things together and use that for cymbals, hopefully it wont sound ubergay

rayray i have a task for yew:
i want to put this piano part in overture, but my fingers dont pian well, its more about inflection than notes, so midi is kinda cumbersome
listen to overture (piano).m4a
i have the most basic form of the part there, but i want the inflection and accents to keep changing so it feels more modern, keeping it straight 16 notes seems too classical. you can go beyond the 4 notes there, but keep your note choice simple and just play them different. maybe start with kinda loose 16 notes and then slurring and maybe simulating sweeps, skipping odd notes, going forwards and backwards, dumb shit like that. play it like your just keeping the groove in the back of some hiphop song, dont get tricked into playing more of whats already in this song.
if that doesnt make sense i can probably do it on guitar to show you

chillverture.m4a
less intense/stressful to listen to, more organicish
the bass is really sloppy and the end doesn't make sense yet

Re: Overture (still typing because you need atleast 10 characters in your fucking subject)
rayray can you record me a giant grab bag full of things that sound like "fade into memory"
i think it might be cool to have ambiguous lyrics since the part is really just a pad anyway
"fade into melody"
"bathe in a redwood tree"
"strafe left by pressing b"
i dunno
probably a bad muddy idea, but why the fuck not

overture moving tempo.zip
ive automated the tempo to make it more dynamic
(all midi instrument replacements are temporary)
fred, can you give me a vocal track to the new tempo plz? theres a scratch vocal track for reference. if you stray from my brilliant vocal arrangement by so much as a 32nd note im removing you from my will. that's right, youll get 0% of nothing, which is like supernothing....so....yeah!!!
